  Prevent Horse Abuse

The most important factors man is responsible for are his/her physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. It really is our responsibility to focus and balance ourselves before training or interacting with a horse. Animals generally flee from confrontation that’s why it’s important to note what our own state of affairs (mental thoughts, emotional feelings, physical actions and spiritual awareness) are before we begin each session.

MENTAL HEALTH
This is an important factor in horsemanship and life itself. Everything starts with a thought. We think a thought, we give it energy by speaking that thought through words (sound) and finally we are able to act and experience it through the human body. The impact of cause and effect is reflected by our actions and behaviour. A peaceful mind experiences peaceful behaviour. The trick is to not let emotions take over the mind whilst dealing with horses.

Mental strength and flexibility is crucial as horses test boundaries just like children. Sometimes it feels like a game of mental chess. Mental strength can be acquired through faith and belief in ones actions. The silence of the mind and the simple act of being in the now, will reveal a lot of what is generally missed. Horsemanship is indeed like life itself, it’s a state of mind.

  EMOTIONAL HEALTH
Emotion is energy in motion. It is important to know when our emotions are controlling our thoughts because achieving goals can become awkward and cumbersome. A normal reaction once frustration and anger sets in is to become emotional. Horses are sensitive animals capable of sensing human emotion. Love is the best emotion to possess whilst dealing with horses. Horses respond to it……enjoy the experience……are able to see it….and return it.

This is what can happen when emotions take over our thoughts. The first and last time Glyn works a horse whilst going through some personal emotional issues. This is Proof that energy follows thought and emotion.

PHYSICAL HEALTH
Correct nutrition is vital for both man and horse. For man a healthy balanced protein diet, incorporated with regular mental (meditation), emotional (balancing and clearing) and physical exercise (gym, yoga, martial arts, general fitness) all contribute towards training horses. How physically fit are you when it comes to training, or riding, horse’s? Physical health is a major factor when it comes down to achieving something special from the ground. Ground Schooling is great fun, it’s where we truly learn the most about ourselves and our horse.

Physical health for horses is a big responsibility. Hooves require attention every 4-6wks. Clean stables aid in preventing feet related ailments eg.thrush. Regular deworming (3 mths) depending on grazing and paddock population helps maintain condition.
An annual check up on their teeth is advisable. Clean water and plenty of good grazing in a hazard free environment are also important. Daily parasite inspections and grooming, contribute towards the basics of maintaining a healthy horse.

An animals health ... is a reflection ... of the owner.
SPIRITUAL HEALTH
This is a very personal topic. Through incorporating spirituality with horses, Glyn has broadened his concept of horsemanship to now being a way of life. “It truly has become a life changing journey”. Horsemanship is a “state of being”, and a human being who is capable of being a happy being, has boundless potential.

Horses have played an integral part in the history and lifestyle of man. They have been used (and abused) by humans for many purposes, with little to no consideration given to these beautiful and majestic creatures. Our animal friends have a purpose on earth... to teach us unconditional love, so that we can take it into the world around us and live in harmony with Mother Nature.

These amazing creatures are the land dolphins of the earth. The extent to which they have helped man is immeasurable, and they will continue to do so... if we listen...

"Horses are symbols of freedom - yet we seem to do nothing but control and restrain them…. by force! How ironic, considering that the horse brings with it new journeys. It will teach you how to ride into new directions to awaken and discover your own freedom and power." Ted Andrews.

"The horse is rich in lore and mythology. An entire book could be written on the significance of the horse alone, for no one single animal has contributed more to the spread of civilization than the horse." Ted Andrews
