  Leadership

Leadership is made easier once a sound relationship has been built out of trust, love and respect from the ground. The aim is to master leadership from the ground so that a horse can understand the concept from its back. If you can’t lead a horse from the ground, you will not be able to lead it from its back.

An ideal Leadership style is a non-aggressive and intelligent one. This style allows the horse to freely experience any situation through their own free will and choice.

Leadership through intelligence rather than by force stimulates and encourages individual growth and development.

The ideal leadership ratio to have is a 51% (man) to 49% (horse) ratio. The key to building an extra-ordinary relationship is consistancy... easier said than done. Consistancy requires mental, emotional and physical self awareness and control, including leadership intelligence, perseverance, commitment and most importantly, belief and passion in what one is doing.

It is important to treat each horse on its own merits and uniqueness. The way each horse reacts to the same stimuli say for example the touch of a hand, is different. Some horses swish their tales in irritation and give you a whipping, whilst others may nod their head in approval or raise it in denial. Some may give you a spine chilling snort or want to nibble, lick or inspect you.

Shown above is the ideal leadership ratio. Human (51%), horse (49%) ...

" The best soldier does not attack. The superior fighter succeeds without violence. The greatest conqueror wins without a struggle. The most successful manager leads without dictating. This is called intelligent non-aggressiveness. This is called mastery of men." Lao-Tsu
