Horse Safety | |||||||||
The purpose of understanding equine behaviour is to obtain a clearer insight as to how and why horses act/react the way they do. The most important link to the mind is the eyes of a horse as their bi-lateral vision has been crucial for their survival. The question to ask is… "How do we train the mind to not react to pressure, once the eyes see that pressure?" Safety with horses is vital, therefore understanding equine behaviour enables man to interact with horses in a safer manner. Safe horses are generally relaxed and confident horses that see man as no threat compared to a nervous horse, a less confident horse and whom more than likely does see man as a threat. A horse running away from being caught is reflecting its exact state of mind. The "art" with horses is the ability to change that scene to one where we have the horse running towards its catcher. It is only through the horse’s response to pressure that we know what to do next. Developing equine intuition is a matter of listening to everything within you, and most importantly your horse... This understanding is the beginning of an easier more enlightened way of communicating, training and interacting with horses. |
